It's not Badgers/Gopghers "Paul Bunyan's Axe", nor is it Florida/Georgia "World's Largest Cocktail Party". Welcome to the first annual "Rumble On The River" between the Dubuque Bruisers and the River City Rough Riders. Although these teams have played each other for the last four years (each team winning two games), the owners thought it was time to spice things up. Winner goes home with not only bragging rights until this Rumble is renewed in 2013, but they also go bring the trophy home with them. This is a first, so the Rough Riders don't plan on letting those boys from Iowa take it home with them. Not going to happen. Kickoff is Saturday May 19th @3pm @UWL stadium. "One team, One Mission, One Goal" Injuries, bad decision making and just poor play kept the Rough Riders from going 2-0 as they lose to the Eau Claire Crush 13-6. The Rough Riders started The game started out promising for the Rough Riders after a three and out by the defense, on the first offensive play River City's Phillip Ditto completed a 50 yard reception to Julius Shelton that got the down to the 3 yard line. Three plays later, Karl Hoffman completed a two pass to Ditto that made the score 6-0. Extra point was block. All the scoring from that point came from the Crush. First was a first quarter TD pass to tight end Chris Haynes. Extra point was good. The second score came in the fourth quarter on a four yard run from Running back Bobby Brown. There was'n't too many positives that came from this game. From a owners standpoint I'm very disappointed in the way that our guys handled themselves out there. There were plenty of bad calls and some questionable football being played that led to some key injuries. Instead of using this to motivate our team, we fed into it and that is not the way I want this program to conduct themselves. Chalk this game up as a bad experience and WE WILL MOVE FORWARD!!!! Rough Riders will play the Lake Superior Rage next on May 12th @7pm at UWL. |
If anyone know the Rough Riders, they have been known for their "D". With that being said putting up 41 points wasn't enough to defeat the Rage as they fall 46-41. This was actually a great game win or lose for all parties involved (players, fans, officials, Dance Team and even the custodian that monitored the game). As I mentioned to our team, it wasn't any one specific thing that lost the meaning offense, defense or special teams. It was because we only practice once a week and there are times when we can't get everyone there. Being able to take care of mishaps comes with repetitions. You will have that in leagues like this. My question from here is what are we going to do to improve? Karl Hoffman was 24-52 for 357 yards, 5 touchdowns and 3 picks. Phillip Ditto and Aaron Woelfel both had 8 catches, both over 100 yards. Brad Rebarcheck had 131 yards rushing, 69 receiving and 3 TD's. The Rage came into the game ranked in the top 3 on offense and defense in 2011. We knew coming into this game that we had a tough fight on our hands. Kevin Suber shined on the "D" with 6 tackles and 2 sacks. The Rough Riders were down as many as 19 points late in the third quarter but rallied to get within 5 points with 1:47 left to play and the ball. Could not capitalize on that possession after being intercepted. Rough Riders fall to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the NEFL. Next game is at home against the Dubuque Bruisers at 3:00pm Thanks again to all the sponsors and fans that attended the game. See you all next week. You can help your River City Rough Riders name their mascot. How you ask; simple, by voting on the right side of this page. Voting will continue through the beginning of the season and we will announce the winning name at one of our home games |
